Col du Galibier via Col du Telegraphe is the biggest climb in France in terms of altitude gain. I can get to the base of Telegraphe from home in an hour forty-five - as it starts right next to an autoroute - sweet.

Tour de France - Col du Glandon

Today I cycled up the Col du Glandon and the Col de la Croix de Fer (23 km climb and about 5,000 feet vertical) to watch the second huge Alps stage in the Tour de France.

This was the 2006 Tour de France stage when Landis hit a wall - the day before his “miraculous” comeback.



Col de la Forclaz

Biked my first col (mountain pass) this year - the short but steep Col de la Forclaz (Haute Savoie, France). It is only about 9 km of climb but averages about a 9% grade with one full kilometer a leg crushing 11.5% grade.
