Century Sunday – Long Vuache

Wow, second century of my life and second in a week.

A while back, I gave Martin a map and guide-book of signed Haute Savoie cycling routes and today he suggested the closest to Geneva – Route 17. “It’s 25 hilly kms just to get to this fine route,” I said gently. “I know the route but usually drive to the start.”

“No problem, should be great” he replied. I soon learned why as Martin was STRONG today. Well, 137 kms later I am knackered! An absolutely great, hilly ride in nearby France along beautiful quiet roads. We both struggled at times but laughed a lot. With all the climbing, this ride took longer than last weeks 176 km lake loop – yikes.

My wife asked me the highlight of the ride. “when we walked into the Kebab restaurant at the end – without a doubt”

Below, it’s easy to see where we briefly got lost.

is Happiest while cycling uphill. More enthusiastic than talented, his 2013 Challenge is to cycle a 150 Cols (mountain passes), slowly -- and to just enjoy.

  1. Does 137 km count as a century? Although with all that climbing it should…

And that GPS route–there is no way that errors in navigation can be ever hidden again. Technology–bah!

We also need to see some pictures of those quiet French roads.

  2. Leslie,

My weak legs means counting metric centuries :)
