Col de la Pierre Carrée

Hairpins - Col de Pierre Carrée

At 1844 metres, Col de Pierre Carrée — just above Flaine ski station — is the highest road I know in the area that is usually cleared all winter.

Apart from the first few kilometres, it is rarely that steep. But at more than 20 kms uphill, and ~1350 metres (~4400 feet) of ascent it’s still a huge and beautiful climb.

A picture postcard day:

is Happiest while cycling uphill. More enthusiastic than talented, his 2013 Challenge is to cycle a 150 Cols (mountain passes), slowly -- and to just enjoy.
