Col des Montets and Col de la Forclaz
By Will • May 27th, 2009 • Category: Climbs, CyclingAlmost 30 degrees F colder than a couple of days ago!
A simple there and back route starting from Chamonix – up the scenic but not too difficult Col des Montets and Col de la Forclaz.
With a little more ambition I would have descended the other side of Forclaz to reclimb it’s much harder side – but alas I lacked a little motivation.
Forclaz means “narrow gap” and there are at least 5 Col de la Forclaz in the northern alps. This along with Col de la Forclaz de Montmin are the two most well known / interesting.

I’m looking at your post today and remembering there’s a $222 million dollar lottery jackpot drawing here tonight. If I win… I’ll be over soon to ride this route and others if you’ll be so gracious to show me around. No worries… I’ll treat you to a new bike… all the libations you can handle and I’ll pick up the meals too. Sound good? I really hope I win. Cheers!
