Dole - La Barillette
By Will • May 7th, 2007 • Category: Climbs, Cycling, Juras
High above Lake Geneva, at 1,678 metres Le Dole is one of the highest peaks in the Jura montains. At the very top is a huge white air-traffic control radar ball clearly visible from below (see photo).
It’s a great ride - with more than 1,000 metre in vertical climb - on a well surfaced, deserted forest road that is fairly steep in places but affords nice views of the lake. A kilometre further from Le Dole is La Barilette and huge Swiss Telecom towers. The road reaches 1,520 metres and opens to views of the Swiss Alps, French Alps and Lake Geneva below - but a bit hazy today.
I saw a couple of deer and a fox on the way down. The deer quickly fled, but the fox was happy to stay a while and pose for photos.
