Le Semnoz via Col de Leschaux

By • Apr 21st, 2007 • Category: Climbs, Cycling

A long (30 km) climb from Lake Annecy on a quiet roads up the back way to Le Semnoz – the mountain that dominates the west side of Lake Annecy.

The route is about 30kms (the first 9 are flat) starting near Annecy along the bike path and climbing from less than 500 metres to almost 1,700 metres with a couple of downhills along the way. I climbed the first part with a nice guy from Annecy while we discussed famous climbs and tomorrows French elections. At the Col de Leschux (900m), he descended home and I continued up some fantastic hair pins, picking up the pace.

This is a long, generally not too steep climb, and I was feeling great until the final two steep kms, where I hit a wall – tired. Luckily Doreen had ran for 75 minutes along the Bike Path below and then driven up to fetch me. Great lunch at restaurant up top.

is Happiest while cycling uphill. More enthusiastic than talented, his 2013 Challenge is to cycle a 150 Cols (mountain passes), slowly -- and to just enjoy.
