We were in Val d’Isère for Sunday’s Col de l’Iseran “bike-only” day and I decided to spend Saturday exploring up high and off-the-beaten-track.
Beautiful vineyards, a challenging climb, a long tunnel, military checkpoints, an alpine dam/lake, and a beautiful castle – this loop has it all. And most of it is virtually deserted!
If you’re touring the RGA it’s worth stopping for a day in Beaufort and taking a detour up to Col du Joly.
It’s becoming the summer of beautiful Alpine Lake / Dam rides. But this time I went another 14 kilometres past the dam.
I love climbs to Alpine dams/lakes. And the ascent to Lac de Moiry has to be one of the hardest.
Sometimes just a small detour can lead to amazing sights.
