The greatest cycling trip of my life. Ten great days cycling in the Alps with great company.
Day 9 of the Tour d’Enfer and Greg, Scott, Andrew, Andrew, Ralph, and Doreen and I decided to climb Col d’Allos.
Col d’Allos
Summit: 2,247 metres (7,370 feet)
The Climb: 21 kms (13 miles); Ascent: 1,130 metres (3,700 feet);
This is perhaps my favorite climb in [...]
Woohooo, Doreen on her heavy Touring bike climbed Bonette (this photo made us laugh)!
Signed as the highest road in Europe (debatable), this is a huge and beautiful climb. Perfect weather and today I decided to work hard and felt fairly good considering it’s the 8th day.
Doreen joined us in Barcelonnette last night! While some people decided to take a rest day, a few of us opted for a light climb up the beautiful Col de la Cayolle.
Col de la Cayolle
Summit: 2,326 metres (7,630 feet)
The Climb: 29.4 kms (18.3 miles); Ascent: 1,200 metres (3,940 [...]
More good luck: Col d’Izoard was closed to cars between 9:00 am and 12:00. Very civilized!
Day 5 of the Tour d’Enfer. Everyone else took a bus to cycle the north side of Galbier.
I wanted to do something new, so my plan was to finally cycle up the Col du Granon.
Summit: 2,404 metres (7,890 feet)
The Climb: 16.5 kms (10.3 miles); Ascent: 1,120 metres (3,675 feet); [...]
While many rested their sore legs in the hotel, Ralph and I went to watch the Tour de France at the top of Col du Galibier.
Col de l’Iseran is the highest pass in France. It’s a pretty awesome experience and was the favorite climb for many on the trip (the descent is pretty amazing too).
Day 2 - after the hail, the weather has cleared.
Today we cycled Col des Aravis, Col des Saisies, and Cormet de Roselend. I rode mainly with Scott and Ralph - great company.
