A scenic and challenging loop around and over the Jura mountains from Geneva.
Eric and I took mountain bikes and decided to get muddy and search for the secret road over the Jura mountains and the savage Col du Sac down to the tiny Menthières ski station on the other side.
At about 1,250 meters (4200 feet) the paved road ended and I ran into snow. I wasn’t sure where the actual Col was and I hate to climb a Col and not find the sign at the top
So I decided to continue climbing the gravel path through the snow.
The Cret d’Eau is one of the highest peaks in the Jura Mountains, about 50 metres lower than the highest – the neighbouring Cret de Neige, and we can see it from our driveway. It’s about 20 kms away as the crow flies. From Bellegarde there is a super route on mainly wide, deserted roads [...]
