I brought along a domestique to make a little video of today’s fantastic climb.
OK, we are pushing it a bit. This is a great summer cycling climb.
There is a currently a lot of snow around. So it’s either stay on ploughed roads or brave the powder.
I hate riding indoors.
But this week I logged 240 kilometers on the indoor trainer, which is more than the rest of my life combined. I just couldn’t get myself to ride out in the awful weather.
How does a 32 kilometres bike ride take over 5 hours? Ice, Ice, more ice, snow, hiking, etc.
I just couldn’t resist.
While skiing at Le Grand Bornand a few days ago, I kept looking towards Col de la Colombière and wondering if I could reach the top with a bike - without waiting until June for the road to open.
At the base of Col de la Colombière, the quaint Savoie village of Le Grand Bornand will host a Tour de France stage for the 5th time in 2009 - the huge mountain stage 17.
I love having a mountain in my backyard.
The high Alps passes won’t open for another 6 or 7 months (!) and the snow has now even arrived down low.
But winter doesn’t mean that one can’t continue to cycle uphill.
