Another fantastic day cycling and watching the Tour de Romandie.
My plan was to cycle both side of Col du Marchairuz and then watch the race up top (map at bottom).
From Aubonne: Length: 20 kms Ascent: 1050 metres
From Le Brassus: Length: 7.4 kms Ascent: 450 metres
From Aubonne, the climb to Marchairuz was more challenging than I expected. It’s a perfectly surfaced, wide road. The lake and alps views improve the higher you get.
The other side – the side the Tour de Romandie climbed – is beautiful, occasionally steep, but disappointingly short.
Once again, the Romandie publicity caravan was excellent. Highlights include a sweet Gruyère cap, a glass of wine from the Vins de Morges car, and (strangely) a toothbrush and toothpaste from Athleticum.
My favorite photo of the day (apart from the beer photo, of course) was definitely when Cadel Evans passed – trying to escape the peloton – and a little boy kept screaming support.
Meanwhile, while I was up the mountain, my wife was in Geneva for the finish. She snapped this photo after the race of our friend Katy with Cadel.
