I am making good use of the mountain behind me so far this year.
It’s been gray and wet for 2 weeks now. So nothing to do but get outside and ignore the weather.
I took the super steep way up from Collonges – for the first time on a road bike. Previously I have used my hybrid for extra gearing. But the legs felt pretty good and I was able to keep the cadence up on the 4km stretch that averages 12%. Up top it was like winter!
I then nipped up to the high point at 1300 metres, descending the back side looping back via Cruseilles and back over the shoulder of the mountain through St Blaise.
I felt better today than I have in a long time.

Hi Will,
your website is great, even more your trips!
Me and two friends like the mountains too, end of juli we want to drive the southern alps. For that I have a question about accomodation. Is it possibile to get affordable beds without bookings, max. 40.- € per person, along the best roads and passes?
I’m searching for information about that, untill now unsuccesfull. Du you have an idea?
Thanks very much, and may be we see us.. ;-))
Regards
Kurt
Hello Kurt
It’s very difficult to say. You will see a fair number of small Gites with signs saying rooms available. Although up high, you can go long stretches without anything.
Careful, as the tour de France passes through parts of the South Alps the 22nd and 23rd of July.
Sorry not to be more help
Nice video, will. Love the elevation profile too.
This looks very promising for your Cyclo this weekend. Good luck, keep it safe and see you next week.
la video m’a bien fait rire !!!
bravo pour garder le sens de l’humour malgré la blessure…
Great website – quite inspiring: a group went up Croisette yesterday and found it to be a lot of fun – although not a little bit challenging.
Thanks and keep up the good work.
