My mom is visiting from Canada.
So I dropped her off at the market in the quaint ski-station village of La Clusaz ….. and snuck off for a quick ride.
Col des Confins is a scenic 5.4 km climb above La Clusaz. Near the Col, the Lac de Confins was looking a little empty and muddy, but there is superb hiking from here and views of the Aravis alps. There is also a beautiful dead-end valley over the other side that may need investigating on a mountain bike.
After descending back to La Clusaz, I took the road towards Col des Aravis but turned off and cycled the easy side of Col de la Croix Fry. (For details of the superb harder side – see here).
A quick descent back to La Clusaz and then we went for a nice outdoor lunch at Col des Aravis:
Fantastic stuff, a lot of memories for me in this ride. In July 2008 rode Thones to La Clusaz to the Aravis then back via Col de la Croix Fry to Manigod and back to Thones. Our day was very similar, blue sky no clouds.
Thanks again for great website, Mark
Will, I am so glad that your mother, like mine, is a traveller, And that cracked sign is oh so familliar…. Pete
I haven’t got around this side of Annecy. Still traking my way around Les Massif des Bauges. Looks good. Mum should be proud….
As I guess you are suspecting ….. there are endless great rides near you.
On this side of Annecy are some pretty big, quiet, climbs awaiting you.
Let me know if you discover anything in your area that I have missed 😉
