The First Great Ride of the Year

0

My 2014 Cycling Challenge is to enjoy 50 great rides.

It’s winter in the Alps but I thought I’d better get started.

#1 Mont Salève

The Salève is the mountain overlooking Geneva to the south. I live at the base. The top traverse is closed in winter (although I have previously snow traversed – bike hiked – across with a mountain bike).

After a few easy rides, and too much gym work, this was my first climb on my lousy knee. The goal was high cadence and keeping my heart rate below 80%. Yes, I went slow. I took the steep way up to Croisette as I knew it would be open, and then I headed a little higher to the lookout point (map below).

Beautiful day, not toooooo cold, and a lot of fun. 🙂

I’ve blogged a lot about Mont Salève, so I’ll stop now, but if you want more information then here are details of all five road-bike routes up Mont Salève.
