This quiet forest climb starting from Lake Annecy is one of our favourite rides on perfect weather days.
The route starts at the big parking lot on the lake. It takes a couple of kilometres on bike lanes to leave the town, first climbing through the Engineer University.
The route soon turns onto a small, very quiet forestry road that winds up the back side of Mont Veyrier and Mont Baron. It’s a wonderful little road – possible on a road bike – but fairly bumpy up the top half.
While Doreen continued to Col des Contrebandiers, I took a quick detour to visit Col de Pre
Vernet (see map).
At Contrebandiers is a hiking trail-head. So we left our bikes and hiked up a steep trail to the old cable car platform. The views of the lake are amazing here — a perfect place for our picnic.
In the opposite direction plenty of big snow covered mountains including Mont Blanc:
Wow! Great weather for April!
A beautiful setting for an outing with your beautiful wife!
