Col Hunting in the Chartreuse Alps
The huge mountain massif between Grenoble and Chambéry is the Parc naturel régional de Chartreuse. Beautiful mountains and some great cycling.

Col des Annes is a little know, beautiful, and very steep cycling climb starting from Le Grand Bornand.
Today’s goal was to get as quickly as possible (on scenic roads) from Geneva to the Cols that lead into the beautiful Vallée Verte.
A great loop in the beautiful Vercors Massif. Four Cols, two typically stunning Vercors gorges, and a terrifying tunnel.
A near perfect day (apart from bonking) Col hunting around the Mountain des Vorès above Col des Saisies.
A superb loop through the Jura mountains – including eight Cols (three for the first time).
I was like a kid in a candy store.
Today’s ride passed at least 10 Cols (mountain passes) – I have photos of 9, missed one sign and got lost off road at a likely 11th. Fun!
My greatest cycling skill? Climbing? Descending? Time Trialing? Sadly no.
But I am a great route planner! And today’s route was sweet.
A fairly huge mountain bike ride, Col hunting in the beautiful Vallée Verte – south of Lake Geneva.
The Vallée Verte South of Lake Geneva is a beautiful place to get some climbing in while the big Alps are closed. There are quiet, fairly steep climbs everywhere.
