Fairly well known among Geneva cyclists is some version of the 10 Col Vallée Verte loop.

I like to consider myself a fairly good “Col Hunter.” But my friend Bastien is a true expert.

For the first time in ages (years?), I followed with no idea where I was going as I was with a group of expert route planners.

A few weeks ago while cycling Col de la Madeleine and Lachat I could see into the next valley and noticed some amazing hairpins up high. I vowed to take a closer look.

A scenic, very quiet route – including a long stretch of trails – in the Bauges Alps. Five Cols (although, admittedly I descended to two of them).

A fantastic four col loop through the Chartreuse alps above Chambéry.

The plan: Cycle as many Cols as possible and then watch Stage 4 of Paris-Nice.

The goal was to find some new Cols and quiet, scenic roads. Mission accomplished.
