Year in Review – My Top 5 Cycling Highlights

0

2007 has been a great year on the bike.

This time of year, I like to look back through my blog with Doreen to remember some of the highlights.

At left, the brave Doreen climbing the amazing Col de l’Iseran on our trip to the Vanoise Alps.

Here are my Top Five 2007 Cycling Highlights:

#1 – Cycling Across Wales

Over 500 hilly and scenic kilometres, Doreen and I cycled the length of Wales through the land of my ancestors.

An incredible trip including, driving rainstorms, lots of cows, castles everywhere, stunning landscape, endless steep climbs – including the highest pass in Wales, three nights of Indian food, seaside towns – and we even came home with tans.

#2 – Watching the Tour de France Live

I was lucky enough to see two mountain stages of the 2007 Tour. On Bastille Day up Col de la Colombiere. And at the top of the legendary Col du Galibier a couple of days later.

#3 – Entering Three Organized Events

For the first time in my life, I rode in a Peleton. Entering three very fun events.

  1. 173 km Loop of Lake Geneva
  2. 173 km Loop through the Vosge Mountains
  3. 125 km Tour of Gruyere

The Vosge mountains event was also part of a great five day trip with some North Americans organized by Leslie from Travels with a Tin Donkey fame.

#4 – Berner Oberland – Swiss Alps

Perhaps the most beautiful rides I have ever done on a great trip with my Mom, Doreen, and Martin.

#5 – Cycling Mont Ventoux Three Times

It’s always a special experience to cycle of the legendary volcano in Provence. Cyclists everywhere.

  1. Bedoin side in May
  2. Malaucene side in May
  3. Bedoin side in October
A Final Highlight

Riding with People I met via this Blog

I often get emails asking for trip planning advice. But in 2007, I ended up actually meeting and riding with quite a few people that I met via this blog. Always a lot of fun. I’m grateful for everyone that made the effort to contact me.

Martin and Barry have become regular riding partners, it looks like I’ll be cycling with many of the Vosges guys next July in the Alps, and Scott periodically tries to get me to visit New Zealand (one day!)

Happy New Year! (my legs are tired)

Share.

Happiest while cycling uphill.
