Pretty much every ride from our new home involves descending for the first several kms, leveling out with lots of small ups and down, and then a long slog uphill home. It is possible in the summer to invert this by climbing the salève (the mountain behind us that we’re part way up). But currently its closed due to snow. Total Distance 9,678 kms

Since Last Post: 79.5, 22.7, 41.6, 30.2, 33.3 kilometres, Well it has become tough. The weather turned, snow is on the ground, and I live part way up a mountain. Still I have managed to get out here and there – but the balaclava is now regular gear. The 79.5 km ride was a week a go Saturday near Annecy and included probably the last big climb of the year, the short but fairly steep Col de l’Epine. 44.1 kms Now I am in France, i thought I’d see how easy it is to ride to Switzerland. Easy! After climbing 200 metres up nearby mont sion, it is a 10km descent into Switzerland to roads that i have ridden many times. 38.3 kms What is 38 kms long and has more than 1,000 metres of climb? The most obvious loop from our new house. A great climb up to the Saleve mountain behind our house leads to views of the french alps. The descent is down a terrible stretch of 5 kms averaging something like 13%.
