Rome Bike Tour

Doreen and I spent the weekend in Rome. And our visit included a 4 hour bike Tour.

We had a fun guide – he was certainly a character – but enthusiastic. While we may not be the fastest cyclists ever, we seemed to be almost Olympian compared to his usual clients. But after a while he understood that we could ride faster than 5 km/h. 🙂

On the map at the bottom I’ve highlighted a few of the many historic sites we passed. It was a great way to get a feel for the city and helped us plan the rest of our stay. However, a few thoughts:

1. We had a blast on the cycling tour.
2. But Rome is not a great place to cycle. Virtually no bike lanes, and lots, and lots of fairly crazy traffic.
3. The official Rome bike share program has collapsed. We visited Torino earlier in the Year and their bike share program (pick up/ride/drop-off/change bike/etc.) made the entire weekend so much fun. But sadly all the Rome bike-stations have no bikes, and are now used as parking spots for Vespas. What a shame.
