I often suggest this as a perfect introductory climb for the famous big Alps climbs.

At 1844 metres, Col de Pierre Carrée just above Flaine ski station is the highest road I know in the area that is cleared virtually all year.

There is a well known “secret” among mountain lovers. During the endless, gray, depressing days this time of year – there is often plenty of sunshine if you just go high enough.

Col de Pierre Carrée is a big climb and easily the highest pass in my vicinity that is currently clear of snow.
