An early easter ride with Eric and the wives.
My three faithful companions wanted to help me with my 100 Col challenge – and today’s route included five (see map)!

A scenic and challenging loop around and over the Jura mountains from Geneva.
Although Mont Revard is only a little over 1500 metres high, the climb starts beside Lac du Bourget at just 250 metres – making for a big climb.
I have already cycled Col de la Croix Fry in 2009, I had told Eric so many times what a great early spring climb it is – that he wanted to have a look.
March and April is the best time to do small and medium climbs in the Alps as the weather can be warm, the roads fine, and the surrounding mountains stunningly snow covered.
If you are a fan of cross-country skiing or seeing huskies pull a sleigh ….. Col de Cuvéry atop Plateau de Retord is the place to visit.
As luck would have it, I have a cycling friend in St Etienne (today’s Paris-Nice finish). Philippe kindly invited me to come see the stage with him after first exploring the very interesting hills of the Parc Naturel Régional du Pilat by bike.
It’s time to launch my 2009 big climbs map.
Call me stupid but I find it motivating to start each year with an empty map and try and fill it with rides.
